For the past decade, Huguette has worked closely with various agencies dedicated to assisting refugees in their adjustment to new lives. In her role as a translator, she has provided essential guidance and support in areas such as housing, employment, healthcare, and legal services. This experience has afforded her a profound understanding of the challenges faced by refugees and immigrants, instilling in her a strong commitment to effecting positive change. Huguette has observed a significant gap in support once these agencies conclude their initial work with refugees and immigrants, leaving them to navigate serious challenges independently. This realization has fueled her passion for making a lasting difference in the lives of those desperate.

OUR PROGRAMS
Promote awareness of mental health and provide support for refugees and immigrants.
Our program is designed to offer comprehensive support, emphasizing not just trauma treatment, but also the development of resilience and the creation of a strong sense of community. Refugees arriving in the United States encounter various challenges that can aggravate their mental health. The cultural adjustment, language barriers, and pressure to adapt can be overwhelming, resulting in feelings of isolation, confusion about their identity, and financial strain. These difficulties often amplify existing mental health concerns. Moreover, the trauma experienced by parents can impact their children, who may also struggle with adjustments, such as academic pressure, cultural differences, and a sense of not belonging, potentially leading to anxiety, depression, and behavioral issues.
Autism in refugees and immigrants in the USA presents unique challenges. Due to cultural differences, language barriers, and limited access to resources, these individuals face difficulties in receiving early diagnosis and proper support. Many refugee and immigrant families may not be familiar with autism or may have different perceptions of the condition, which can lead to delayed recognition and intervention. Additionally, the trauma and stress associated with displacement can impact both the mental health and development of children on the autism spectrum. The lack of culturally competent services and support systems further complicates their ability to access appropriate care.
